Ohana Magazine -
Since the launch, we are proud to have accomplished 2000+ reads across two issues and the magazine was shortlisted for the Terry Mansfield Publication Award at Graduate Fashion Week 2021. This project also enabled the team & I to gain industry experience after internships were cancelled due to COVID-19.
What is Ohana?
Ohana was founded in January 2021 by Emily Orr and has been created in collaboration with 18 talented BCU creatives on a volunteer basis, with the intention of raising awareness surrounding the nine protected characteristics.
Skills involved.
-
As a writer, I was responsible for producing well-researched, timely, and relevant articles tailored to our audience and aligned with our mission statement. I also designed graphics and layouts for the magazine, ensuring everything adhered to brand guidelines. Collaborating with both illustrators and writers, I worked to bring their articles to life through engaging visuals and content.
A few topics I wrote articles covering include period poverty, lockdown, and spirituality.
-
Designing layouts for my and other team members’ articles.
This would include designing graphics or illustrations to complement the topics of the articles.
Page design and illustration were either designed in Adobe InDesign or Illustrator.
-
Working with two other members of the society, I created content for Instagram, such as stories, grid posts, and gifs.
I introduced Linktree and Spotify to the brand to help our readers navigate content and engage in new ways.
Please note that Ohana’s social channels are no longer updated.
